- She's also met a lot of interesting characters along the way, like violin makers, gluten-free flour producers, Christmas tree growers, and reindeer herdsmen.
- In her early days of creative writing, Lois had various poems and short stories published and flew to Reno, NV, to accept an award for one of her poems.
Experience
Lois has an innate passion for writing which progressed from the short stories that she wrote as a youngster growing up on a farm in southwest Michigan to later freelancing for various farm and gardening publications. With over 30 years of experience in the field, Lois has used her natural writing ability and self-taught photography skills to showcase gardening, cooking, and human-interest stories. Combining these two areas of expertise, she has been a frequent feature writer/photographer for Mother Earth News, GRIT, Goat Journal, Cappers Farmer, Successful Farming, Country, and Farm & Ranch Living magazines. She implemented and wrote three weekly columns on travel, knowing your business neighbor, and country tidbits for several local newspapers. She has blogged for GRIT magazine for nine years and had her own blog for three years. She served as assistant editor for Lake Access magazine, creating feature articles and editorial content for gardening and easy meals at the lake. Lois also designed, composed, and edited a cookbook titled Seasoned With Love that included heritage recipes.
