Citi Field Food Selection Gets Even Better For Mets' 2017 Season
Porsche, Jim Beam, mozzarella sticks and cookie dough are all jumping on the Mets bandwagon. The Major League Baseball season opens next week, and when the New York Mets take the field against the Atlanta Braves Monday afternoon, the fans at Citi Field will have even more dining options than last year, when the organization rolled out arguably the best food selection in the game.
Michael White (with Nicoletta), DŌ cookie dough, Bao Haus and Big Mozz are among the new purveyors, joining an existing lineup that includes Pat LaFrieda, Shake Shack, David Chang (Fuku) and Josh Capon — who is debuting his award-winning Bash Burger. So yeah, there will be two of the most respected burgers on the planet available in the same baseball stadium (and Capon's Bash Burger, a six-ounce LaFrieda patty topped with caramelized onion and bacon jam, American cheese, shaved pickles and secret sauce, is a killer). Also on deck are several first-rate pizza offerings, a far cry from the old days of soggy Ellio's slices being pedaled in the stands at Shea.
At a recent media event to unveil the new items and to showcase all the food and beverage at Citi Field this season, held at the Porsche Grille over the left field bleachers, the Mets also announced that the luxury carmaker as well as Jim Beam — with its Jim Beam Bourbon Bar in the center field concourse — have joined as sponsors, and the line-spawning Manhattan sensation DŌ will bring its cookie-dough concoctions to Queens. Your dutiful correspondent walked the event and tried as many items as possible, with standouts that included:
The Big Mozz sticks from Big Mozz, now available at Citi Field.
Citi Field's beer selection offers lots of Bud and Bud Light (more sponsors) but also a craft beer lineup that highlights many New York City–area breweries, as well as respected national names like Elysian, Bell's, New Belgian, Sam Adams, Sierra Nevada, Souther Tier, Stone and Victory.
The Mets' high-profile young pitching staff, returning slugger Yoenis Cespedes and a healthy core lineup have fans excited about the team's prospects this year, when the Mets go for their third straight playoff appearance. The team's culinary curators are putting together quite a winning streak of their own.
