NYC: Brooklyn Flea And Smorgasburg Markets Open In New Locations This Weekend
Opening this Sunday in time for the fifth anniversary of its inaugural market, the Brooklyn Flea market is moving to East River State Park. Also making the one block move is the Williamsburg site of Smorgasburg food flea market, which will continue to run each Saturday, starting this weekend. Meanwhile, the Saturday Flea in Fort Greene and Sunday Smorgasburg in Brooklyn Bridge Park will continue as they have in the past. All four markets will operate weekly through November 23/24.
In addition to the more than 100 returning food vendors, several new faces are joining the Smorgasburg lineup. Highlights include:
- Melissa Weller's (formerly of Roberta's) new bagels and cream cheese line
- La Esquina's Mexican specialties
- Two local yogurt-makers
- Brooklyn Wok Shop's soup dumplings
- Floyd Eats, the beer-cheese offshoot of the popular Atlantic Avenue bar
Over at the Flea, 40 new vendors will make their debuts in both Fort Greene and Williamsburg. Among the young antiques collectors and refurbishers are:
- Trees and Nails' salvaged-wood cutlery
- JM Restoration Co.'s beautified vintage furniture
- Superhero mask-maker Haute Heroes
- 3-D puzzle-maker Kubiya Games
- Porcelain tea sets, embroidery and stuffed kittens by Bjork collaborator Starling Brood
The Flea's twice-annual Record Fair will be on hand May 4 at East River State Park, where over 40 top collectors, DJs and record labels will set up alongside Smorgasburg for the day. Also of note is vendor Yuji Ramen, who will be serving ramen for lunch and a five-course omakase dinner – Tuesday through Friday – at the Smorgasburg counter at Whole Foods Bowery through May 12.
