10 Pop Culture Recipes From The Food In My Beard Blog
One of our favorite recipe blogs on the block is The Food In My Beard, a colorful (and quite useful) site run by the bearded Dan Whalen. He's currently based in Boston, after having spent three years in Bermuda. So his sensibility is quite international in flavor. In a post published on the site's three-year anniversary, he describes his humble beginnings:
"Three years ago I didn't like Indian food, was still iffy on sushi, didn't know Persian food existed, and didn't know what cardamom, raita, lassi, tah-dig, or arepas were."
Whalen has most certainly come a long way (he now writes weekly recipes for a major food company), refining a style that blends practicality and wit. He's also a crazy pop culture head, often dedicating recipes to the Music and TV shows he's watching. Here are 10 of our favorites:
1. Lasagna Timpano for Tune-Yards
2. Kung Pao Shrimp for the premiere of Curb your Enthusiasm
3. Two Foot Party Skin for Delocated [see our interview with Jon Glaser]
4. Buffalo Chicken Ravioli for Sleigh Bells
5. Rum Ham from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
6. Black Treacle Salmon for the Arctic Monkeys
7. Jerk Chicken Lasagna from Workaholics
8. Pumpkin and Blue Cheese Soup for Kate Nash
9. Meatloaf for the premiere of Mad Men
10. Lemon Pepper Wings and a Freeze Cup for Major Lazer, La Roux and Gucchi Mane
