Pizza Hut's New Cheeseburger Melt Wants To Reinvent The Burger
Fast food lovers no longer have to make the heart-wrenching decision between choosing a meaty cheeseburger or a meaty, cheesy pizza for dinner. With Pizza Hut's new Cheeseburger Melt, pizza and burger fans can enjoy the best of both worlds.
The new offering is not just a bunch of cheeseburger toppings on a standard pizza, either (though we certainly would not turn our nose up at that). Instead, it takes two slices of Pizza Hut's Thin N' Crispy slices with a parmesan crust — the same as the other four melts on the menu — and folds them around cheeseburger-inspired toppings including beef, applewood smoked bacon, onions, mozzarella, and cheddar. There's no bun but tons of crunch, and it comes with a classic burger sauce on the side for dipping.
The restaurant chain is even suggesting that its latest take may be an improvement on the classic all-American cheeseburger without the flimsy toppings. The company invites eaters to "cheat on their usual burger chain" and skip what they call wet, soggy, boring, and hard-to-eat sandwiches.
Pizza Hut is trolling fast food hamburger chains
To promote its new Cheeseburger Melt, available everywhere as of May 14, Pizza Hut is sending out branded cars to drive-thru lines at burger-heavy fast food places in major hubs like Chicago and Miami. The cars are printed with the question, "Want a better burger?" along with a QR code. Curious eaters can scan the code to get a coupon to try Pizza Hut's latest offering plus a Pepsi for free, while supplies last. While this move may fall into the category of bad drive-thru etiquette, it is certainly a creative marketing campaign on the part of Pizza Hut.
Whether or not you are lucky enough to spot one of these cheeky vehicles, you can try the Cheeseburger Melt at participating restaurants across the United States for a limited time. Order it solo for $6.99 or as part of the My Hut Box combo that comes with a drink and the choice of fries or four boneless wings for $8.49.
