Dunkin' Deserves To Win Super Bowl 2024 After Its Ad
Ben Affleck is no stranger to Dunkin' commercials. During 2023 Super Bowl LVII, the Oscar-winning actor starred in a spot where he got to "work" the drive-thru at the coffee and donut powerhouse alongside his wife and fellow A-lister, Jennifer Lopez. This year, the duo and their pals were back on the television screens of millions who tuned in to watch the biggest game of the year. The commercial wasn't a huge surprise, as Affleck's Dunkin' "comeback" was teased during the 2024 Grammy Awards earlier in February, but the script sure was.
The key to the success of this ad was not only the star power, but the randomness of it all. In what world does Affleck ask Jack Harlow for advice for entering the music business? The spot then cuts to social media celeb Charli D'Amelio who warns Lopez that her well-meaning husband is about to enter the music studio where she's currently in session. And does he ever make an entrance.
Clad in bright pink and orange jumpsuits matching the colors of the Dunkin' brand, Affleck, along with long-time real-life pal Matt Damon and retired NFL superstar Tom Brady stroll in as an outlandish boy band called the DunKings — or as they call themselves, "The Boston Massacre." With Brady on keyboards and Damon singing backup, they belt out "Don't Dunk Away at My Heart," hoping the supposed hit will be on Lopez's newest album.
The hilarious ad even pays homage to Affleck and Damon's Oscar-winning hit, "Good Will Hunting," with Damon sheepishly ending the performance with the line, "How do you like them donuts?"
Celebrating famous Bostonians and brand-new Dunkin' items
The hilarious new Dunkin' commercial ran just before the half-time break of Super Bowl LVIII, and was a brilliant display of the Massachusetts-based company and its famous hometown boys, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon (along with Tom Brady who retains honorary Beantown citizenship due to his long stint as quarterback for the New England Patriots). But it also served to introduce Super Bowl watchers to Dunkin's brand-new, limited-time offerings that will debut on Monday, February 12.
A press release from Dunkin' Donuts explains that the chain will offer the new DunKings Iced Coffee (Affleck's favorite beverage when he stops in), flavored with vanilla and cream and topped with Sweet Cold Foam and cinnamon sugar. In addition, customers will be able to order a DunKings Munchins skewer, basically three Munchkin donuts on a stick, which can be added to the top of any beverage.
More new DunKings specials with music-themed names will be available on the Dunkin' mobile app too, including an Everything Encore Breakfast Sandwich, Hazelnut Heartthrob Iced Coffee, and Mixed Berry Beats Dunkin' Refresher. For the biggest Dunkin' fans, the website will also be selling tracksuits and bucket hats matching the ones worn by Affleck, Damon, and the rest of the troupe.
