Foster Farms Recalls 77,000 Pounds Of Mini Corn Dogs Over Strange Odor

If you have packages of mini corn dogs in your freezer, you should probably check the brand and details because Foster Farms has voluntarily recalled nearly 77,000 pounds of its breaded franks, per a press release. What sparked the recall were reports of an off-odor, flavor, and appearance of Foster Farms Mini Corn Dogs Bite-Sized Chicken Franks Dipped in Batter, Honey Crunchy flavor, specifically the ones sold in 1.83-pound resealable bags. The affected bags can be identified by the lot codes 123114 or 223114, the plant number P-9136, and a "Best If Used By" date of April 23, 2024. Those who have purchased such bags are encouraged to throw them away or return them to the store for a refund.

Foster Farms produces dozens of chicken products but these specific mini corn dogs are the only product affected by this current recall. To date, there have been no reports of anyone experiencing reactions or illness due to the product in question, but the company still strongly advises that no one should eat the corn dogs that fall under the recall. The food was produced and packaged by House of Raeford Farms and the company's contact information is available on the USDA website.

Trust your noses and taste buds

It appears that the affected corn dogs possess all the signs of food that has potentially gone bad. According to the USDA, rotting foods will often show signs of unpleasant odors, flavors, and textures. Things can get confusing, though, with certain foods that are "ripe" to begin with like certain funky cheeses and fermented veggies like kimchi and sauerkraut. But with something like corn dogs, most Americans know exactly what they should taste like and they certainly shouldn't have an odor outside of the essences of frankfurter and corn.

Bad odors and flavors in foods are often a warning for potential bacteria that could make you sick. These recalled mini corn dogs don't necessarily contain any such bacteria, but it is a precaution that Foster Farms and House of Raeford Farms are taking, as consumers' well-being is a top priority, and the company is committed to offering only the highest quality foods.
