Support Sustainable Oyster Farming: This Week In Food Activism

This week's charitable news is brought to you by a sustainable oyster farming party, an ice cream-making extravaganza and a brand-new café where you can enjoy all your typical coffee fare while supporting the fight to end to childhood hunger.

  • The FEED Shop and Cafe opened this Wednesday in Brooklyn's DUMBO. The company famous for their canvas bags dedicated to fighting childhood hunger around the world, has turned its charitable concept into a cafe. An exclusive Brooklyn tote bag is available for purchase. Ten meals will be donated to Brooklyn public schools for every bag bought.
  • San Francisco's Smitten Ice Cream is partnering with local incubator for the female entrepreneur-driven La Cocina in an ice cream taste off on May 9. Six competitors from local restaurants will create flavors and be judged by attendees for a chance to be featured on Smitten's menu. Ticket proceeds will go to benefit La Cocina and can be found here.
  • The fourth annual Billion Oyster Party falls on May 18. The event is dedicated to the restoration of oysters by collecting the beautiful shells and using them to grow oyster larvae. Expect delicious bites from Dock's Oyster Bar, Gramercy Tavern, Nomad, Eataly, Bar Sardine and more. Proceeds from Tickets can be found here.
