Annie Leibovitz And Her 4 Macallan Moments
We've seen an uptick in wine, beer and spirits brands using their labels as a sort of canvas to commission artists for collaborations. The Macallan was ahead of most of the pack, debuting the Masters of Photography series a few years ago, and for its third installment, the famed single malt scotch whisky maker is going deep. Annie Leibovitz shot four vignettes on location in New York State, featuring actor Kevin McKidd, a Scot who happened to work in the MacAllan distillery on Speyside as a young man (he went on to star in Trainspotting and more recently, Grey's Anatomy).
The images were given to the Macallan distillers in Scotland, who crafted four distinct single malts meant to reflect the vibe in the photos, which feature McKidd enjoying his scotch while seated among friends in a bar; relaxing alone in a library; making sexy eyes with a gal pal in a gallery; and perched above Manhattan's skyline. We tasted the four variations last week, and we must say, the Macallan's distillers know how to craft their whisky; the bottle that pairs with the sultry gallery shot has a corresponding intensity and yet a certain smoothness that could certainly put a young couple in the mood.
The bottle/signed print sets will be limited to 1,000, presented in a photo archival box, and retailing for $2,750. You can get on the waiting list here. Be sure to check out the photos below (Click on the first one to launch a slideshow).
